Roller Coaster of Emotions
High Spirited one minute, sad the next and you wonder if you’re in the right state of mind. When you go through all of this, it will be difficult to stay mentally balanced. This is why, I will like to share helpful tips to keep you elated and stay above negative emotions that can drastically affect your well-being.
It’s important, you first understand the source of these draining feelings in order to easily tackle the situation. Could it be a life challenging situation you’re currently facing, a state of bereavement, a feeling of Betrayal or something that seems to be burdensome? Carefully identify the sources, be sincere to acknowledge how you feel and then decide to conquer those negative feelings.
Furthermore, you have to recognize the fact that you have control over your own emotions and shouldn’t allow your emotions take charge over your actions or inactions. There are ways to take your mind off draining emotions or feelings such as listening to music, writing, exercising, creating art etc. All of these are relative, to what best works for you. What works for me, may not work for you.
Let’s dive into the practical ways we can handle our emotions to remain mentally healthy:
Work on your thought patterns : This approach enables you to be conscious of your thought lines which births your actions. You have to think positively in knowing that whatever you’re feeling now is a building block for what’s coming in the future. Don’t conclude on the note that you’re a failure or entertain disruptive thoughts. Believe in yourself and step off the emotional roller coaster.
Engage in positive self-talk: What we think about ourselves plays a huge role on how we feel. This is why you must intentionally speak edifying words to yourself, to spark or ignite hope within you.
Forgive Yourself: Have you made mistakes in the past and now facing the consequences? I will encourage you, not to beat yourself up for it and just pick up the pieces from where you dropped off. Enough of ruminating on those mistakes and blaming yourself. It will hinder you from forging ahead in life.
Practice Self-awareness: Be mindful of the kind of emotions you allow to breed for so long because it can escalate to affecting your mental health. Keep your thoughts focused on the present moment and make the best out of it. This will help you not to dwell on your past hurts or obsess over future fears and help you remain more emotionally centered.
I hope these few tips has helped you understand how to handle roller coaster of emotions. However, I know some of these issues can be related to medical tendencies like bipolar disorder of experiencing a lot of quickly changing and intense emotions, swinging from happiness to extreme sadness. Whatever the case may be, it’s necessary you take the bold step in resolving this issue in order to protect your mental health.
